Q. I went to a dinner party last week, and the first course was asparagus, I did not know what to do as some guests used their fingers,

A. Using your fingers to eat asparagus is perfectly acceptable, many hostesses will provide individual bowls of water to dip your fingers into once you have finished eating your asparagus. Your napkin is used to dry your hands.
